At least Four People have been killed in a fighting Between Refugees and host Community in Nyumanzi Refugges Camp in Adjumani district.

Tension started on Monday when a local man who was making ‘chapati’ at a trading centre in Nyumanzi refugee centre was killed under unclear circumstances.

Locals from the Madi community accused the refugees and attempted to attack them.

The Madi community blocked all roads leading to the refugee camps and were “baying for revenge.”

On Thursday morning, the host community block Adjumani road which pass through Nyumanzi refugees sattlement in Dzaipi sub-county.

A young refugee who was travelling from Nimule border in South Sudan to a refugee settlment in Adjuman district was captured and seriously wounded.

Deng James is a refugee from Nyumanzi camp. He told Jonglei website that, two refugees have been killed and three locals confirmed dead too.


But local community members told New Vision that Police officers deployed to disperse the locals shot dead one person on Thursday and left two others injured.

The Resident District Commissioner Taban said locals were pelting the police and UPDF officers with stones provoking the officers to fire bullets.

“What I know is somebody was shot and injured in the legs because he was pelting the army and the Police with stones. One army officer was injured and shot with a bow and arrow,” Taban said.

Taban said two officers were injured in the clashes.

Nyumanzi refugees settlement hosts many South Sudanese refugees who fled the violent from Jonglei state in-between 2013 and 2014.
