BOR, 14TH JUNE, 2019 (JONGLEI)-The South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has relieved the governor of Jonglei state, Philip Aguer Panyang from his duty in a republican decree issued on Wednesday night.

Philip Aguer Panyang was removed without explanation –apart from the president citing his constitutional powers to appoint and remove public servants.

Philip Aguer who has been the governor of Jonglei since late 2015 welcomes his removal and congratulate his successor Maker Thiong Maal.

“I am here to appreciate H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit of appointing me as a governor by the end of 2015 and of giving me a chance to govern the people of Jonglei State. I have appreciate the relieved because politic is about change, and change must be welcome. I congratulate the incoming governor Hon. Maker Thiong Maal and peole of Jonglei State” Philip described

Prior to his appointment, Aguer served as a long time spokesperson for the then SPLA now SSPDF.

Upon his appointment –among 27 other governors for a newly created 28 states- Aguer was subjected to a local mock election in Juba where communities from Jonglei endorsed him.

His successor Maker Thiong Maal is a member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).

Aguer says his plan is to be lecturer at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology.
