Hon. Denay Chagor discussed Greater Jonglei peace plans with Madam Deborah, UNMISS representative in Jonglie State. Madam Deborah reiterated that UNMISS is willing to support the grassroots peace initiative in Greater Jonglei. Governor Chagor added that both Pibor Administrative Area and Jonglei State are jointly working to ensure that peace is a priority in both areas. With ongoing consulaltation on states’ government structures, there’s hope that the government is going to be formed soon.

Jonglei State is the largest state in South Sudan covering 122,479 km² area and population of approx. 1,443,500. Jonglei State borders Ethiopia to the east and five states within South Sudan: Upper Nile to the north, Unity and Lakes to the west, and Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria to the south. The current governor of Jonglei State is Colonel Philip Aguer Panyang.
