In his meetings to the President, Governor Denay Chagor briefed H.E. President Kiir on current status of Jonglei State. Chagor stated that most parts of Jonglei State are affected by the flood; however, the communities remain resilient despite the challenges. Hon. Denay disclosed to the media that the citizens are yearning for the formation of the state’s government. Moreover, the President is hopeful that the complete formation of the states’ government would happen sooner.

Jonglei State is the largest state in South Sudan covering 122,479 km² area and population of approx. 1,443,500. Jonglei State borders Ethiopia to the east and five states within South Sudan: Upper Nile to the north, Unity and Lakes to the west, and Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria to the south. The current governor of Jonglei State is Colonel Philip Aguer Panyang.
